We have whittled down our herd to seven gentle, perfect horses that anybody can ride. We can have four riders and three volunteers mounted at once. That makes games and relay races more fun and trail riding safe. Our entire herd, for that matter, consists of wonderful, special, exceptional individuals--much like our riders. Each has his or her own role, specific types of riders they benefit; specific jobs that they do well. I am so grateful to be so blessed with these magnificent equine friends. All are precious, much valued treasures.
About Our Equine Therapists
Our big, grey quarter horse, Blue, is the perfect horse. He is seasoned but we don’t even think about his age (born in 1985).
Poncho is just right for a career in equestrian therapy. His short stature (14 hands) makes side-walking easy and safe.
Bailey is always conscious of and careful with his rider. If the rider gets off center or drops a rein Bailey will stop.
Roscoe, the Hurricane Katrina survivor, is a big clown. He is also young and rock solid.
Red Rock has turned out to be what they call an “easy-keeper”. It doesn’t take a lot of feed to keep her plump and healthy.
Our paint mare, Princes was donated back in February of 2010. She has a lot of energy so all of our advanced riders want to ride her.
